When home is inside the WorkZone™

Residency housing tends to be close to the hospital. That’s usually a gift — a shorter walk at 5:40 in the morning, a real dinner between shifts. Occasionally it produces an odd side effect.
A resident opens the ResQ app on a Saturday, sees hours recorded, and knows for a fact they never left the apartment.
Nothing has gone wrong. A WorkZone™ is a virtual boundary drawn around a clinical site, and boundaries are drawn generously enough to catch the whole campus — parking structures, connected buildings, the far end of a block. If home sits inside one of those boundaries, ResQ does exactly what it was built to do: it records arrival.
That’s the right behavior in the wrong place, and there are two different ways to fix it.
Which fix depends on whether you train there
You live near a site you never train at. Maybe a WorkZone™ was created for an affiliate hospital across the street from your building, and you have never once worked there. In that case you don’t need that boundary at all — Toggle WorkZones™ lets you switch that individual WorkZone™ off completely, and it stays off.
You live near a site where you do train. This is the harder one. You can’t switch that WorkZone™ off — you need it recording every time you’re actually on shift there. Turning it off would mean losing real hours.
That’s the gap Ignore Duty Hours at Home closes. It carves your home out of a WorkZone™ you otherwise depend on. Hours stop recording at home and keep recording at work, in the same boundary, with no daily input from you.
Turning it on
Available on iPhone and Android, and it takes about two minutes.
- Sign in to your institution’s web portal — your institution ID followed by
.resqmedical.com(for example,lomalinda.resqmedical.com). - Open your profile and find the Personal Information section.
- Fill in your Address, City, State and Zip, then Save.
- In the ResQ app, go to Settings → Preferences. Under WorkZone™ Preferences, switch Ignore Duty Hours at Home to ON.
That’s it. Hours stop recording at home from then on.
Worth naming the obvious question: yes, you’re giving ResQ an address. You’re giving it so the app records less, not more — it needs to know which place to leave alone. It stays in your own profile, and you can change or remove it whenever you like.
Three levels of control, not one switch
Residents have three separate ways to decide what gets recorded:
- AwayMode™ — temporary. One tap stops recording, for an afternoon off in the hospital café.
- Ignore Duty Hours at Home — standing. One place, permanently excluded, inside a WorkZone™ you still use.
- Toggle WorkZones™ — whole-site. An entire boundary switched off.
And this matters to the program, not just the resident. Hours recorded at home are hours that never happened — they inflate a weekly average, push a resident toward a limit they aren’t near, and put noise into the record a program relies on. A resident who fixes this isn’t opting out of compliance. They’re making the data true.
